The body of the immediate past Dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) late Prof. Elkenah Chubike Ndie, who died on Tuesday, 28th October 2025 was laid to rest on Friday, 12th December 2025 at his residence at Mmaku, Awgu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
Testimonies about him from family, friends and associates showed he was a humanitarian, philanthropist, and a community leader whose generosity, many students received scholarships and financial support to complete their education.
Fondly called a palm wine tapper, Prof. Ndie was described as a great nurse, bringing succor to the sick and infirmed, a teacher, mentor, a consummate administrator and an exceptional scholar whose influence will remain ever green to those who had closer association with him in his life time in this ephemeral world that is mutable.
Representatives of NOUN who graced the occasion of his burial service were: Prof. Patrick E.Eya (Rtd), Director, Umuahia Study Centre, Prof. Nnadi Chris, NOUN/ Commonwealth Learning, Canada, Prof. Jane-Frances Agbu, Director, Academic Planning, Prof. Gregory Okagbare, Ag. Director, Awgu Community Study Centre, Dr Rosemary Ijeoma Nwofor, HOD, Public Health Sciences, representing the Faculty of Health Sciences, Dr. Samuel O.Azubuike, staff from Enugu,Awgu Centres among others.
His formative years were deeply rooted in his devout Christian family and served as bell ringer to being choir member and cross bearer during Church processions laid the foundation for his unwavering commitment to service, humility and discipline.
The burial ended smoothly with significant attendance.
