Study centres to get desk officers, new NMCS president assures

The newly sworn-in President of the NOUN Multipurpose Cooperative Society (NMCS), Mr. Bala Lazarus Sabo, has assured cooperators that his administration will accord inclusiveness a high priority by creating desk offices at all the study centres of the university.

Sabo stated this during the 2019-2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the society held on Thursday 21st, October, 2021 at the Convocation Arena of National Open University of Nigeria Headquarters (NOUN), Jabi, Abuja.

The event, which also witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of the new executive council of the society, marked the end of the tenure of the previous executive coulcil, under the leadership of Dr. Greg Onwordi.

In his inauguration speech, Sabo said “We shall do all that is humanly possible through transparency and inclusiveness to restore confidence on the leadership of our cooperative society.

“In respect to that we will want to have desk officers across all our study centers for members to have access to the executive and channel all their requests, queries and suggestions to the desk officers via the secretariat.

‘’NCMCS is too great to limit itself. We are on a mission towards providing additional satisfaction to our members. On behalf of the executive members we thank you all for your support.”  

Speaking earlier, the immediate-past president disclosed that the society would be paying about N14 million as its dividends that span between 2019-2020 in line with the appropriation of the net supplies.

“This we deemed imperative to enable cooperators have value for their money. Dividend is an entitlement and we can’t withhold any cooperator dividend,” he said.

According to him, his administration inherited a lean account from his predecessors, but exiting the office, his administration can boast of saving a significant sum as contingency payment of loans monthly to meet with unforeseen situations such as late remittance by IPPIS and investment in viable projects.

“We introduced for the first time electronic payment with tokens, thereby eliminating any possibility for fraud or sharp practices. Members have experienced prompt payment of loans even at weekends and during public holidays and some other achievements,” he said.

In his address, the representative of the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives (LSMCIC), Mr. Omotayo Kazzem, charged the incoming members of staff cooperative to recover all the money they loaded to microfinance bank and individual.

Omotayo advised the incoming Excos to try and create different ways of generating money for the society.

He appreciated the immediate-past president for a job well-done during his tenure, saying that “I also thank the Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters and other Principal Officers for their support.”
