VC pledges commitment as NOUNAA Water Factory project takes off

The Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, has reaffirmed the university's commitment in collaborating with the National Open University Alumni Association (NOUNAA).

He made this statement during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the NOUNAA Water Factory, held on September 27, 2024 at the NOUNAA Alumni Village, Kuje, Abuja.

This initiative emerged from discussions earlier this year, which were aimed at establishing an alumni village that will feature a water factory and a guest house.

The Vice-Chancellor, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Isaac Buswat, highlighted the significance of continuity and unity within the association.

He expressed his satisfaction with the association's progress and urged the executives to foster a spirit of togetherness for the growth and development of NOUNAA.

Additionally, he commended  the university’s director of Advancement and Linkages, Mrs. Omorogieva Ileka, for her responsiveness to the association's needs and for effectively conveying their requests to the university management.

Earlier, the President of NOUNAA, Amb. Ifeanyi Kingsley Obukwelu, in his opening remarks, stated that the project was spearheaded by the association’s immediate-past president, who is now the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Muntaka Abdul-Hadi Dabo and was envisioned to foster growth and create new opportunities for both alumni and the university.

He emphasised the importance of the ceremony, stating that “This project embodies the hard work, dedication, and aspiration of our National Executive Committee, Alumni Village Committee, and the entire NOUNAA Community.

Its true success will be measured by the lives it touches and the positive changes it brings.”

Obukwelu underscored that the ceremony represented not just a building, but a vision for the future and a commitment to progress.

The president reiterated NOUNAA's commitment to promoting a positive image of the university and promised to keep members informed about project developments.

He also said that plans for a Memorandum of Understanding between NOUNAA and the university are also in the pipeline, which is aimed at solidifying their partnership.

On her part, the Director, Directorate of Advancement and Linkages, Mrs. Omorogieva Ileka, while giving her remarks, recalled the collaborative efforts initiated under the leadership of the past president, which led to the creation of a strategic road map to guide the association.

She encouraged them to continue fostering the positive rapport they have established with the university management and maintain continuity in the administration of the association, regardless of changes in leadership so as achieve progress.

The Chairman, Board of Trustee, NOUNAA, Muntaka Abdul-Hadi Dabo, while delivering his vote of thanks, expressed his appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the director  for their unwavering support, which played a crucial role in the success of the project.

Dabo also thanked the president, NOUNAA for commitment to continue the project initiated by the association.
