The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service has taken its campaign on fire safety to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The Principal Fire Officer II, Mr Bassey Enyieko, who led a four-man delegation on a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, stressed the need for in-house training on fire safety and evacuation drills for NOUN technical staff and securities.
“Kindly improve on fire safety certifications and organise in-house training on fire safety and evacuation drills for technical staff and securities," he said.
According to Enyieko, “we are here on a fire safety familiarity visit , to see the level of safety compliance in NOUN and also to congratulate the VC on his assumption of office.
“We have had a cordial relationship with NOUN before now as a government organisation, we have been assisting NOUN whenever the need arises as NOUN averagely comply with FCT fire service standard."

In his response, the VC expressed delight over the visit and thanked the fire service for all assistance they have been rendering to the university since its relocation to FCT.
Professor Peters urged the visiting team to go round and put down their observations and what they will assist NOUN in doing as regards safety compliance.
He urged the team to also help in identifying a suitable place to serve as muster point in case of eventuality.
Earlier in his comment, the Acting Director Security, Malam Isa Shehu, stated that the FCT fire service has been of immense help to NOUN not only in the Headquarters but across all its study centres.
“I want to use this opportunity to thank you for rescuing us at different occasions, " he said.
He, however, pleaded with the VC on the need to strengthen the existing cordial relationship between the fire service and the university as safety compliance forms part of National Universities Commission's (NUC) requirement regarding accreditation.
