Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olufemi Peters, said over 400 delegates and stakeholders of the Open and Distance Learning in Africa are expected when the university play host to the 3rd Moodle Mood Africa 2025 Conference on Wednesday, October 8 - Friday, 10, in Abuja.
Peters stated this on Thursday , October 3, 2025 during a press briefing at the New Senate Chambers of the university in Abuja, where he also disclosed that the Minister of Education, Dr. Rauf Olatunji Alausa, his counterpart in the Communication and Digital Economy, Mr. Bosun Tijani as well as the FCT minister, Mr. Nysom Wike will grace the occasion.
The Vice-Chancellor explained the significance of the Moodle Moot Africa Conference as a platform for knowledge exchange, innovation in open and distance learning, and digital education across the continent.
He drew attention to the central role of Moodle in driving educational technology, stressing that the 2025 conference would not only showcase Africa’s strides in e-learning but also foster stronger collaborations among universities, policymakers, and technology developers.
“The Moodle Moot Africa 2025 Conference is a convergence of thought leaders, innovators, and practitioners of open and distance education,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
“It will provide an avenue to interrogate the opportunities and challenges of digital learning and chart a sustainable path for African institutions in the 21st century,” he said.
Peters explained that apart from the continental ODL and digital education insititutions, the conference will welcome all Nigerian ODL counterparts, including those universities offering hybrid learning, like the University of Ibadan, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, University of Lagos, and others.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and the Director, Africa Centre of Excellence on Technology Enhanced Learning (ACETEL), Prof. Grace E. Jokthan, assured participants and stakeholders of the LOC’s preparedness to host a world-class event, pointing out that meticulous planning was in place to ensure a seamless experience for all attendees.
Prof. Jokthan noted that the Moodle Moot Africa Conference would strengthen NOUN’s leadership position in open and distance learning while showcasing Nigeria’s commitment to digital transformation in education.
The Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Jokthan provided detailed responses to the sundry questions raised by the journalists, assuring them and the stakeholders of NOUN’s readiness to deliver a conference of international standard.
The Registrar of NOUN, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, delivered the vote of thanks, commending the Vice-Chancellor for his leadership and the LOC for their dedication.
Ajayi also expressed appreciation to the media representatives for their interest and support, stressing that their partnership was crucial in amplifying the reach and impact of the forthcoming conference.
