The Abuja Chapter of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Alumni Association has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, to celebrate his achievements and seek his support for the growth and development of the association.
The delegation, led by representatives of the chapter, described Prof. Uduma as a distinguished alumnus whose contributions across various fields had brought pride to his alma mater.
Speaking on behalf of the chapter, the Public Relations Officer, Princess Favour Nkechi Peter, read a speech on behalf of the Chairman, Dr. Elijah, expressing the association’s delight at visiting one of its distinguished members.
She said the visit was not only to recognise and celebrate the Vice-Chancellor’s achievements but also to strengthen the relationship between him and the alumni community.
The association also solicited his financial and institutional support for its forthcoming end-of-year dinner, noting that such assistance would contribute to the success of the event and promote sustainable growth among members.
According to the chairman’s address, the association believes that the true value of an alumni network lies in the opportunities members create for one another through mutual support and collaboration.
The chapter expressed optimism that the visit would lay the foundation for a fruitful and mutually beneficial relationship with the Vice-Chancellor.
As part of the visit, the delegation presented him with a formal invitation to the end-of-year dinner, where he was selected as one of the distinguished alumni to receive an Award of Excellence in recognition of his accomplishments.
Responding, Prof. Uduma welcomed the delegation to NOUN and expressed delight at receiving fellow alumni of the University of Calabar.
He reaffirmed his strong connection to the institution, describing it as the foundation of his academic journey, despite having attended other universities.
The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the requests made by the association and assured the delegation that he would consider how best to support its activities.
“I had said that I would stop receiving awards, but I cannot say that to my alma mater,” he remarked, indicating his willingness to make an exception for the institution that laid the foundation for his academic career.
He thanked the delegation for the visit and the recognition, reiterating his appreciation for the University of Calabar and its alumni community.
