The maiden Mphil/PhD seminar presentation of the Department of Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution (PCR), Faculty of Social Sciences has taken place at the National Open University headquarters in Abuja, becoming the second department in the faculty to commence PhD programme.
The seminar, which took place on Monday, September 20, 2021, witnessed a total of 28 students of both programmes in attendance and who each took turn to present his/her research topic/problem before a panel of professors.
Globally, the gender gap in institutions has been widespread, raising conversations on how it can be addressed, despite the fact that a meaningful inclusion of women in decision-making positions increases effectiveness unlocks greater resources and strengthens the efforts of any institution. Despite these facts, many institutions in Nigeria still struggle with the inclusion of women in positions that are almost always exclusively held by men.
The quest for an educational framework in Nigeria that can take care of the three vectors of access, quality and cost, indeed prompted the introduction of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) system, through the establishment of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) in 1983.
It is the first of its kind in the West African sub-Saharan region and the largest tertiary institution of learning in terms of student population in Nigeria.
A representative of the Vice-Chancellor, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), and Director, Umudike Study Centre, Prof. Nnadi Chris was one of the large crowd who gathered for the burial ceremony of late Prof. Godwin Obioma on Friday, September 17, 2021.
The ceremony took place at the deceased’s own town, Amaokpu, Nkpa Autonomous Community, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, with other staff of the university accompanying the director.

The South-south Incubation Zone of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and General Studies (CE&GS) of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), is set to host a 5-day exhibition week in the last week of October 2021 for young entrepreneurs being incubated at the centre.
The event with the theme, “Rediscovering and Exploring the Human Capital Potentials of the Nigerian Youths for Economic Growth and Development,” is slated to hold at the premises of the Uyo Study Centre, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where CE&GS is housed.
